March Winemaker: Virginia Willcock

Wednesday, March 24th @ 6:00PM PST $30

Get ready to meet a true superstar from down under!   Virginia Willcock is the Chief Winemaker behind some of Australia’s most critically acclaimed wines, at Margaret River’s founding wine estate, Vasse Felix, established in 1967 by regional pioneer Dr Tom Cullity.  Her insatiable curiosity for the role microbiology plays in grapes and vineyards in making more environmentally expressive wines has been an inspiration for many other producers around Australia.  This has driven the revolutionary development in winemaking style at Vasse Felix, and  in particular her work with wild-yeast fermentation in Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon.

On top of that, she is one of the most awarded female winemakers in Australia and as such is a primary representative of the incredible quality of the region.  Her bottom line philosophy on winemaking is “Make the wines you love to drink.”  That’s something I think we can all raise a glass to.

During this incredible opportunity to speak with Virginia and learn more about her and her work, we will taste three exceptional Vasse Felix wines, including and award-winning, cult icon Cabernet Sauvignon blend.  Not to brag too much, but her Tom Cullity – named for the winery’s founder – award winning wine has also received 96 points across the board from Wine Advocate, Wine Enthusiast and James Suckling.  It is some pretty spectacular juice that is being made available for us to taste!

The three wines we are tasting for this seminar:
2018 Vasse Felix Filius Chardonnay
2017 Vasse Felix Premier Cabernet

2015 Vasse Felix Tom Cullity

Purchase the 3-Pack from Hi-Time here!

These wines are NOT included in the class purchase price, but you will be able to purchase them from Hi-Time Wine Cellars in Costa Mesa!   You are, of course, welcome to join the seminar without the wine, but joining the tasting will give you the opportunity to indulge in and appreciate this incredible varietal.
