Take online wine classes with Vinolust! Learn all about wine from the comfort of home.
Wine tasting is a craft that takes time to learn, and lots of very pleasant practice! But all enjoyment aside, the nature of identifying aromas and flavors in wine is naturally elusive, and is a constant work in progress. This 3-part class is for anyone who is looking to take their tasting skills to the next level with some more specific and geeky ways of approaching your glass and honing your nose.
We’ll go beyond the basics of aroma to focus on two of the most telling components that distinguish wines in blind tastings: impact compounds and structure. Let’s break down the why behind the what!
Classes in the series include:
Class 1: Impact Compounds – Thursday, July 8th
Many wines can display similar fruit profiles, but some very specific chemical compounds known as impact compounds
can be tells for certain wines. We’ll identify some of these both in theory and in the glass!
Class 2: Acidity in Wine – Thursday, July 15th
As one of the most important basics of wine structure, acidity in wine can speak to varietal, climate and winemaking.
This class we explore what affects acidity and identify the difference in three different white wines.
Class 3: Tannin in Wine – Thursday, July 22nd
Tannins are a telling structural element found in red wines that can reveal volumes about varietals.
We taste through three reds as we discuss where tannins come from and what they say about individual wines.
The accompanying Vinolust Intermediate Wine Tasting 9-pack is available at Hi-Time Wine Cellars, with all three wines we will taste in each session. You can purchase the pack directly from Hi-Time, or source similar wines on your own to taste during class.
